The project :
I plan to travel across the Himalayas to continue exploring the world's highest roads, this time on a recumbent tricycle, for some 6 months, from its North-Western tip in the Pamirs down to the South-Eastern foothills of Sikkim, across Tajikistan, Kirgizstan, Northern Pakistan, Chinese Turkestan, Tibet and Nepal. This trip will also give me the opportunity to do some high-altitude treks and climb a few peaks.

But why on a reccumbent tricycle ?
Anyone who has travelled by bike will tell you: cycling offers an ideal travelling pace. Faster than walking, but slow enough to enjoy the scenery, enabling one to stop along anywhere anytime. It's also very rewarding (there is no better feeling than when reaching a pass by the sole power of one's pedalling).
I found out about recumbent tricycles by chance a couple of years ago. It was a revelation. I was immediately convinced it was exactly what I needed. It is very comfortable, stable and fun. And it is a very friendly means of transportation, creating great interest and even fascination. I believe it is a fantastic way to access areas that are rarely visited.
What's more, a tricycle - owing to its originality - is a brilliant means to break cultural barriers and meet people, as I could already experience it during my test ride in the Indian Himalayas in the summer 2009 :

It's load capacity enables me to carry about all the needed equipment, including camping and mountaineering stuff.
